AI Visibility Tracking

Know what AI is telling your customers

Right now, somewhere, an AI assistant is answering a question about your market. It is naming businesses, describing them, and quoting prices. Nobody checks whether any of it mentions you, or whether any of it is true. We do, on a schedule, with the results recorded.

We run this on our own agency. It is how we watched Google's AI recommend us by name, and how we caught it inventing a domain that did not exist.

Why measure it at all

What flying blind looks like

Your customers ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity for recommendations, and the answers change from month to month as models retrain and your competitors publish. If you never look, you do not know whether you are in the answer, described accurately, or quietly losing buyers to whoever the AI names instead. Every normal analytics tool is silent on all of it.

What tracking gives you

A recorded, repeatable answer to the question that matters: when a buyer asks an AI about your market, are you in the response, what does it say about you, and who is taking the recommendation you are not getting. Measured the same way every month, so improvement and regression both show up as movement, not vibes.

The measurement rubric comes from our own published work. Our AI-Readiness study crawled 1,261 business websites, and our AI-visibility research found 1 in 4 sites hide answer-critical content from the crawlers behind ChatGPT and Perplexity. We track your standing against the signals we measured.

AI answers drift. Your site does too.

Models retrain, sources get recrawled, and an answer that named you in March can drop you in June without anything on your site changing. The only way to catch drift is to ask the same questions on a schedule and keep the receipts.

Your own site drifts as well. A redeploy can quietly hide content from AI crawlers even though the page still looks fine in a browser. We re-scan after changes and flag regressions before the assistants relearn the wrong thing.

AI gets facts wrong. We catch them.

Assistants state things about businesses with full confidence that are simply false: wrong prices, stale listings, links that go nowhere. In our own tracking, an AI answer invented an entire domain name for our parent company. We registered it the next day and pointed it at the real site.

You cannot correct what you never see. Tracking surfaces the fabrications, and then the fix is concrete: correct the source the AI learned it from, strengthen the sources that have it right, and confirm the answer moves on the next run.

That loop, measure, fix, measure again, is the entire service. No black box, no promises about rankings inside a chatbot, just recorded answers and the work to improve them.

When the tracking finds gaps worth fixing, our AI search optimization service is the other half of the loop. Measurement tells you where you stand. Optimization moves it.

What we track

Six things we measure every month

AI visibility tracking is a measurement discipline. Here is exactly what we record, score, and report.

1

Scheduled AI answer runs

We build a query set from the questions your customers actually ask, then run it against ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google's AI answers on a set schedule. Every response is captured and archived, so you have a record, not a memory.

Same questions, same schedule, every month. That consistency is what makes the numbers comparable.

2

Mention and citation tracking

For every run we record whether your business is named, how it is described, which of your pages get cited as sources, and whether the description matches reality. Being mentioned and being recommended are different outcomes, and we score them separately.

An assistant citing your FAQ page is a signal you can build on. We tell you which pages are earning citations.

3

Competitor answer share

When you are not in the answer, someone else is. We track which competitors the assistants recommend for your queries, how often, and what the AI says they do better, so you know exactly who is collecting the buyers you never saw.

The recommendation you are losing is the most expensive line item no report has ever shown you.

4

Fabrication watch

We flag what the assistants get wrong about you: invented prices, dead links, wrong locations, services you do not offer. Then we trace where the bad fact likely came from and fix it at the source.

AI answers repeat whatever the web says about you, including the parts that are wrong.

5

AI Visibility Score and monthly report

Every run rolls up into an AI Visibility Score, so month-over-month movement is one number backed by the recorded answers behind it. The report shows what changed, what likely moved it, and what we recommend next.

You watch it the way you watch search rankings: a trend line, not a guess.

6

Crawler regression re-scans

We re-run a real-browser DeepAudit scan of your site on the same schedule and alert you when a deploy or redesign hides content from the AI crawlers. Visibility you fixed once can silently break, and this is the tripwire.

FAQ

AI visibility tracking questions

What is AI visibility tracking?

AI visibility tracking is the ongoing measurement of how AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity answer questions about your market: whether your business is named, how it is described, which sources get cited, and who gets recommended when you do not. We run a consistent query set against the major assistants on a schedule, record every answer, and roll the results into a monthly AI Visibility Score so you can watch your standing move over time.

How is this different from rank tracking?

Rank tracking watches your position in a list of links. AI visibility tracking watches an answer, because an assistant does not show your customers a list, it names one or two businesses and describes them. That means the things worth measuring are different: presence in the answer, accuracy of the description, citation of your pages, and which competitor takes the recommendation when you are absent. Classic rank trackers cannot see any of that.

Which AI systems do you track?

The major consumer assistants your customers actually use: ChatGPT, Google's AI answers in Search, Gemini, and Perplexity. The exact mix depends on your market, and we adjust it as usage shifts. Every tracked system gets the same query set on the same schedule so results stay comparable across months.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and you should be suspicious of anyone who says yes. Nobody controls what a model says, and rankings inside a chatbot are not a thing anyone can promise. What we can do is measure exactly where you stand, fix the real gaps that keep assistants from finding and trusting your business, and show you the recorded before and after. We sell measurement and engineering, not magic.

What happens when the AI says something wrong about my business?

It happens more than most owners expect: wrong prices, services you do not offer, stale addresses, links to pages that no longer exist. In our own tracking, an AI answer invented a domain name for our parent company that had never been registered. When we catch a fabrication, we trace the likely source, correct it there, strengthen the sources that have it right, and confirm on the next run that the answer moved.

What is in the monthly report?

Your AI Visibility Score and its trend, the recorded answers behind it, what changed since last month, mention and citation results per assistant, competitor answer share for your query set, any fabrications we caught and what we did about them, and the crawler re-scan result for your own site. Every claim in it links back to a recorded answer, so nothing rests on our say-so.

How does tracking work with your AI search optimization service?

They are two halves of one loop. Tracking measures what the assistants actually say about you and finds the gaps. AI search optimization is the fix side: entity and schema work, answer-shaped content, and crawler readiness. Some clients run both together, some start with tracking to get a baseline before spending anything on fixes. Either order works, but measuring first means every fix has a before and after.

How much does it cost?

We scope it on a free call, because the right query set and cadence depend on your market and how many competitors and locations you need watched. There is no long-term contract. Book the call, and if tracking is not the right next step for you, we will say so.
