What We Found Auditing 59 Small Business Websites in Albuquerque
We ran 59 Albuquerque small business websites through DeepAudit. It is the biggest sample we took in New Mexico, and it produced the lowest median: 64 out of 100. Fourteen of the 59 scored under 40, the critical tier, more than in any other city we measured. Almost six in ten were below 70.
Albuquerque has the tech corridor, Sandia, Kirtland, a real film business, and UNM. The local websites have not caught up to the economy.
Thin content and missing schema
The standouts in Albuquerque were content and structured data. 71.2 percent of sites had thin content, pages with too few words to rank for anything specific. 64.4 percent were missing JSON-LD structured data, the worst schema coverage of any market we looked at. The whole Social and Schema category averaged 51, the lowest category score in the city. Without LocalBusiness schema, Google is guessing your name, address, hours, and service area instead of being handed the answer, and that data is exactly what the map pack runs on.
The universal two: accessibility and AI
Like everywhere else, accessibility failed on 98 percent of sites, with missing focus indicators on 62.7 percent. And 72.9 percent were missing llms.txt, the file that tells AI assistants what your business is. The basics were thin too: H1 problems on 61 percent, missing meta descriptions on 54.2 percent, missing Open Graph tags on 52.5 percent, so links to these sites look broken when shared.
What it means for an Albuquerque business
Albuquerque has the most upside precisely because it is the furthest behind. Fourteen critical-tier sites in a 59-site sample means a lot of local businesses are nearly invisible right now. Add content depth and schema, fix the universal accessibility and AI-readiness gaps, and you move from the bottom of the market to the top faster than you would in a tighter city. The competition here is wide, not deep, which is the best kind to compete in.
